Raw Food Detox: Day 1

Day 1: Success!

I'm sitting in my bed, lights dimmed, listening to the soothing voices of Amos Lee and Joshua Radin.  I love that hour before bed each night when I'm in full "slow down mode" and am preparing my body for a good night's sleep.

Anyways, Day 1 of my Raw Food Detox went really well and I'm looking forward to the next 3 days. I got a solid 9 hours of sleep, waking up just shy of 8am without my alarm. I love sleeping in on the weekends :-) I had a good hour to relax and hydrate before walking over to 9am hot yoga. What a great way to start the day.

Afterwards, I headed over to the organic food co-op to stock up on my produce for the next few days, did some food prep, then hung out with one of my friends at one of my favorite cafes just down the street.

Here are some of the foods I ate today...

  • Green Smoothie with water, kale, mango, raspberries, and blueberries

  • Green Smoothie with water, kale, strawberries, banana

  • Salad with spinach, chopped tomato, shredded zucchini, chopped jicama, with lime juice on top

  • An apple and a banana

The last few days I felt very "off" and out of "balance". It's hard to describe, but I felt lost...like I couldn't find my way home and wished I had a GPS device to help me get there (perhaps I should've gotten a smartphone...).  I could think of a couple of reasons, namely stress and a recent change in diet, but whatever the cause, I didn't like it.

Today, I found my GPS device in the form of my commitment to this detox and exercising extreme self-care in mind, body, and spirit. I felt like I had found my way home and it felt great. I was back in balance again and felt like myself again. What a great feeling.

It's normal and expected to feel different during a detox, namely because your body is releasing toxins. I didn't feel any negative effects of the detox until tonight.

Around 9:30pm, I got a headache so I drank some water as sometimes headaches are caused by dehydration.  I rarely get headaches and when I do, I try my best to avoid taking medicine to get rid of it. Drinking water or eating typically helps me. I still have a headache now but it's very mild and I'm only slightly hungry, so I'll just ride it out...I'm going to sleep very soon anyways.

I'm already looking forward to going to yoga again tomorrow morning followed by a walk on the boardwalk with one of my best friends.  I love having something to look forward to every day...even if it's something really small. I love waking up in the morning ready to take on the day.

Life is a journey, an adventure. Embrace every second of it :-)
