Smoothies
Hey Chocolate Lovers! I created this recipe especially for you. The protein and chia seeds will keep you satiated all morning while the cacao, banana, berries, and greens will provide you with plenty of nutrients and the energy boost you need to start your day off on the right track.
I love smoothies.
They're a convenient way to consume a boat load of nutrients without making the body work too hard to absorb and digest them. Plus, they taste great! Unfortunately, not all smoothies are created equal which is why I typically don't drink smoothies unless I've made them myself.
A lot of smoothies you can order from restaurants and cafes are ridiculously high in sugar, either from too much fruit, fruit juice, or the addition of sherbet or frozen yogurt.
Last week I did a triathlon and instead of devouring the pizza, bagels, muffins and beer at the finish line, I opted to make this recovery smoothie when I got home. I just threw together whatever I had in my apartment and it turned out deee-licious so I wanted to share it with you.
This new smoothie I came up with is low in sugar, high in protein, rich in antioxidants and will boost your metabolism, lower your cholesterol and improve your immune system. It's mild in flavor, but oh so healthy! Give it a try!
Frozen bananas are awesome to have on hand for when you're in the mood for a refreshing smoothie or some guilt-free, dairy-free ice cream, especially now that the hot summer weather is approaching. One mistake I often see people make is freezing their bananas before peeling them or freezing their bananas whole without chopping them up first. Below is a super simple step-by-step photo illustration of how to freeze bananas so they are smoothie and dessert ready!
My cousin, Debbie, made this green smoothie for her adorable 3 and 5 year old girls and they thought it was delicious! They loved the fact that it looked like grass and appropriately named it the "Front Lawn" :) I had to see what all the hype was about so I made it myself and my oh my...this smoothie is a tasty one!
Did you know that acai, bananas, cacao and avocados are all aphrodisiacs? This smoothie contains all four! Make a batch for you and your sweetie this morning.
Looking for the perfect way to start your morning? Look no further! This green smoothie is instant energy in a glass and has all the ingredients your body needs to detoxify and stay hydrated.
After 12 hours of sleep, plenty of fluids in my body, and a hot yoga sweat-session, I was feeling pretty great. But I was also famished! It had been almost 24 hours since I had eaten anything. I looked around my kitchen for something that would (1) fill me up, (2) give me loads of Vitamin C and (3) not make my digestion work too hard (the less energy my body needs to digest, the more energy it has to direct toward healing).
The answer?
My "Just What the Doctor Ordered" Green Smoothie.
What to do when I'm hungry but out of food? I looked through my pantry and freezer and came up with this delicious concoction. I love adding Vitamin A rich pumpkin to anything and was thrilled when this combination of flavors hit the spot!

This Chocolate Peppermint Protein Green Smoothie is delicious! It reminds me of Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies or mint chocolate chip ice cream. Within minutes of drinking it, I had an instant energy boost (from the cacao). Enjoy for breakfast, as a snack, or even as a dessert.
